Okay, I've always been one of those runners that runs in whatever old workout clothes are lying around. I've never put too much thought into comfort. I don't always match when I run. My clothes sometimes even have holes in them (gasp!). My outfit of choice is usually some old shorts from high school and a cotton tee shirt or ribbed tank top...fancy, I know. And while this has worked for me, I will often find my shorts or tank top riding up in their respective areas. I may even be too warm or cold.
I feel like in order to get serious, I should maybe get some running gear. Aside from my running shoes (which I did get fitted for at Fit Right...I mean, if you're wearing 12W running shoes, you may as well get good ones, right?) I don't have much of anything, except for your basic spandex capris and one moisture wicking tank top and matching pair of shorts.
So, while I really want something like this for Christmas to go with our upcoming kitchen remodel, I'm thinking I should really ask for running gear and I'd love to know what YOU think I should put on my list. Recommendations? Please?
Audrey!! A new blog! Yay.
ReplyDeleteI am a newer "serious" runner, but I'm finding that if I can have a couple of moisture wicking tops and great pants that I can have one set in the wash, and one to wear, it's worth a few great pieces. I have my favorite Nike Tech capris (fitted...LOVE that...they stay put, where they should be for multiple miles)
I run outside, early morning, so I am liking a wicking long sleeve shirt (I found a Nike dryfit half zip top at the goodwill, score!) I also got one at old navy on clearance, which keeps my arms warm but not hot...but not the greatest at wicking. But it was cheap.
I bought a lightweight northface rain repelling jacket, but I'm wishing for a higher visibility jacket, like the Brooks night life or saucony vizi pro.
Also, LOVE my Nike dry fit blister prevention socks. Got them at fred meyers. love love love them.
Heidi Rush posted a great wish list this week...you should check out her blog. www.rushartist.wordpress.com
Hey Audrey - how exciting that you're getting into running! Like you, I used to work out in whatever I found in my t-shirt drawer, but about a year ago I went on a little spree to buy some proper running/workout gear and I'm so happy I did. I think that there really is something to be said for looking the part. Plus, and I know this sounds silly, but I'm more excited about getting dressed and going to the gym to log a few miles now that I have decent running clothes. I LOVE LuLu Lemon tops and cropped pants, and they last forever, but they are pricey so you have to catch them on sale. I also really like Nike Perfect Fit cropped pants. I've purchased a bunch of Champion moisture-wicking sports bras and tops from none other than Target that I really like. Finally, I found that it is really important to have a few nice pairs of socks to avoid blisters that may come with running regularly (especially if your feel aren't used to it). Balega and Zulus are awesome and you can get them at any running store.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that I get your name for Christmas this year:)
Thanks girls...this gives me some good gift ideas for Audrey :-) I'm one of those that runs in whatever I can find, but Audrey I have to say that the moisture wicking top I got for the Portland marathon is great cuz it keeps me dry and warm. Its getting colder so I decided to try on some old leggings I had from the 90's! Well they fit fine except by the end of the run, my waist was squeezed from the tight high elastic waist, and my legs were so hot because of course the fabric was made for warmth and not for breathing. Maybe I'll put some of that running gear on my Christmas list too!
